I just love the fall. It’s still pretty hot here in Charleston though. Probably my main complaint about Charleston is that when seemingly everyone else is starting to look cute in scarves, boots and light sweaters, we are over here still melting and finding it too hot to drink a pumpkin spice latte. When I am ready for fall, I am READY…and that means ready for cooler temps and nice evenings out on the porch sipping red wine in cozy layers. But until then, I have my fall decor to get me into the spirit of the season!
Autumn is my favorite season. I’m a summer girl too, but fall just comes with a feeling…we are all back into a routine with school, kids’ sports and activities are in full swing (and actually close to ending in a couple weeks), football is back, holidays are right around the corner…it just feels like a busy, yet happy time with family and friends.
We moved into our house four years ago, but until now, I hadn’t really added a lot to my fall decor from what we had used at our old house. Because our family had nearly doubled in size from when we bought our first home, when we went house shopping, we picked a house that was nearly double the size as well…so needless to say, my decor that looked full in the last house, looked a little sparse in this house. So I went to Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Amazon, and the Dollar Tree to start adding to my decor.
I wanted a pumpkin-filled porch and cute farmhouse look because it just looks so autumn-y (still need to get more pumpkins!) My non-holiday home decor is more boho chic than farmhouse, but I have a mix of things (including some typically farmhouse items)…so it’s eclectic. I had a friend ask me why my porch decor was farmhouse style, when I typically decorate bohemian and colorful, and I explained that it is holiday decorating, not home decorating, and I just love the harvest-y pumpkin-patchy feel and look that fall brings! Maybe she thought I was going to keep the buffalo check pillows and mat out there forever – nope, just for now through Thanksgiving (and I’ll probably incorporate them into Christmas) but after that it’s back to my normal porch decor. Make sense? Yes, OK. Anyway, here it is!
I’m still going to add more things as I bought some things that I need to DIY…but I am happy with the look of this so far! What do you think? Do you like to decorate for fall? Drop a comment below.
