Our Home | Kids’ Bathroom Redesign

One thing I have not really loved about our new home vs. our old home is the bathroom situation. We had a perfect layout for our three kids in the last house – the boys had a Jack and Jill with private vanities for each of them, and Farrah had her own bathroom in her room. In this new house, there is one bathroom for them on the 2nd floor. I am thankful it at least has two sinks and a door to separate the toilet and shower area from the vanity area, but definitely not near as convenient and nice as what they had before. So when I set it up, I determined there would be a boys’ sink and a girl’s sink, and then otherwise went very neutral with the decor. Here is what I ended up with back then:

I tried to make it boho and even a little beachy (see those seashells? LOL.) I painted and added those bamboo mirrors to fit in with the overall faux bamboo I have literally all over my house. And I liked the shower curtain, but it all just felt a little too plain to me and I wanted to incorporate some color while still having it look like it is both a boy and girl bathroom. I came across these pictures on Etsy and I fell in love with the pinks and blues, as well as the beachy vibes that had me reminiscing of my Southern California days. I knew instantly what I wanted to do with the space.

I downloaded the digital prints and printed them on my printer on 8×11 photo paper. I had remembered that a long time ago I had bought three large IKEA frames that I’d never ended up using and just had in the closet and they were perfect for the prints and the wall space I was going to use them on in the bathroom.

However, before adding any decor, I knew I wanted to paint in there and I wanted to pull that beautiful blue from the prints. I used SW Spa, lightened up 50% and it was absolutely perfect, not too dark and not too light for the space. And even better, I convinced my husband to add a wainscot in there that I had wanted from the very beginning so I could hang towel hooks and he finally obliged! (He also offered to paint the rest of the walls blue while he was at it – yes, please!)

After hunting around At Home and Target, I found some cute towels, a perfect shower curtain (the lighter, sheer white helps the light in that smaller part of the bathroom to illuminate the space better than the gray one before), and a cute wall piece for above the toilet. And OH EM GEE – the rug in front of the vanity – I found that on Amazon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The size, colors, and the fact that it is a Bohemian style pattern??!!! I was elated to find it.

Here is how the space turned out – I would love to know what you think! Please drop a comment below!
