Our Home | Master Bedroom Progress

We have been in this home for four years now and until recently didn’t spend much time getting the master bedroom put together. We didn’t even get around to painting it until earlier this summer! The master has been a challenge, mostly because it’s so large. I am not complaining to have a large space for a master bedroom, however, it can feel too empty if not done right. I’m not trying to clutter it with furniture and things I don’t need, but I also want it to feel cozy.

When we first moved in, we had a queen bed from our old house. I knew that the room needed a king, and let’s face it, at 6’1″ and 5’7″, WE needed a king. We finally got one this summer from Wayfair and I love it. It was a great price, even with having to get a new mattress (also from Wayfair), and I think it looks so high quality. I thought the grayish wood matched perfect with the desk we already had in the space as well as the master bathroom tub wainscot that Jake had recently done.

I have added some boho chic pieces over the years to keep with my plan of a California Bohemian-style oasis. The rug was from RugsUSA (my go-to for rugs). I just love all the fun colors. The peacock chair, bamboo desk chair, bamboo nightstands, and bamboo dresser were all second-hand finds refinished by me.

Things I would still like to do to the space are of course add some art to the walls (I do not like a bare wall!) I intend to do some pieces myself, as well as hang a wall collage of family photos, etc. I would also like to paint that chest at the end of the bed, and also the octagonal bamboo mirror on the desk. Overall though, I feel in a few short months we made a lot of headway on the space and I enjoy it so much better now. Before I felt it was sort of a hodge-podge eyesore.

What do you think of it so far?
