I have to give my man a huge shout out because this was QUITE. A. JOB. One of my complaints (well, really probably my only real complaint) about our house when we moved in almost five years ago was that it did not have a white kitchen. (Because we had painted the cabinets in our old house too!) It didn’t look terrible, but it definitely darkened it and it was not my style at all. If you know me, I like light and bright for my neutrals and I’m not afraid to use bright colors for my accents. They really lend much better to whites and grays as a background.
Now these next two “before” pictures I did love. When we first moved in pink, orange, and yellow were my accent colors and I still love that combo. But the cabinets just didn’t go with my taste.
So Jake finally got to work on it and it took many hours and days of priming, sanding, and painting (when he does DIY, he does it RIGHT. No shortcuts.) My garage gym was taken over for about two weeks while we had cabinet doors and drawer fronts in there. And my living room was overtaken by dishes and drawers because we had to empty everything out! (I opted not to take pictures of this mess! LOL.)
The end result was worth it. We used Simply White by Benjamin Moore. I thought the shiplap as a backsplash added a nice touch (and was cost effective.) It ties in what he did on the back of the island years ago and also the fireplace mantel he updated as well.
I would love to know what you think! I am so happy with it. Walking in to my home after work, this will still smack me in the face because I’m not used to it yet! It really brightens up the space and makes it more up to date
